Fungus takes toll on Maine’s browntail moth populations

Tom Schmeelk, an entomologist with the Maine Forest Service, points out where feeding damage from browntail caterpillars is apparent on the leaves of a northern red oak sapling. A fungus knocked back populations of browntail moths this spring, although scientists are not sure by how much.
